Nicosia, Jun 25 (CNA) - Vice President of the Italian Council of Ministers Gianfranco Fini, who is on an official visit to Cyprus, said the UN should remain the center where the solution of the Cyprus problem should be pursued, adding that his country, which undertakes the EU rotating presidency, will work towards the goal of a settlement.

Speaking during a press conference, he also expressed the view that the earlier Turkey enters the EU, the better it would be towards efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

Cyprus to host EFSMA congress

Nicosia, Jun 25 (CNA) - The hosting by Cyprus of the 4th European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA) Congress is of great importance to the island, President of the Cyprus Association of Sports Medicine (CASM) Nicos Spanos said here today.

The Congress, to be attended by scientists from 40 European countries, will be organised by EFSMA in Cyprus from October 13 to 15, 2005. EFSMA organises the Congress biannually in different European countries.

Speaking at a press conference, Spanos said that hosting the Congress in Cyprus was of great importance because for the two years leading up to 2005, the island will be promoted continuously on an international level in almost all sports events.

Before the press conference started, a one minute's silence was observed in memory of Agis Sirimis, one of the founding members of CASM, who died today.

CASM has decided to announce a special round table discussion on cardiology in sports under the name of Agis Sirimis, to be held at the 4th EFSMA Congress.

Spanos said CASM, which is a founding member of EFSMA and a member of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), has already booked a stall to promote the Congress in Oman, which will host the international congress in January 2004.

He added that apart from the scientific incentives, there will also be ''political'' ones for attendance because the new EFSMA administration will be elected during the Congress.
