Nicosia, Sep 28 (CNA)-- Cyprus Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides welcomed US Secretary of State Colin Powell's statements that the Cyprus problem can and must be solved, noting however that these messages should be directed to Turkey.

Demostration against US and Israeli policies

Nicosia, Sep 28 (CNA) -- Greek and Turkish Cypriot joined forces yesterday during a demonstration against the American and Israeli policies in the Middle East, organised here by Cyprus Social Forum.

Dozens of people marched from Nicosia's Eleftheria Square to the US Embassy and from there to the Israeli embassy where scores of police in riot gear had been deployed. Yet, no incidents occurred.
