UN hopes to wrap up Cyprus talks today

    by Apostolis Zoupaniotis

United Nations, Feb 12 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General's spokesman Fred Eckhard hopes that the Cyprus peace talks, currently underway in New York, will wrap up today, the third consecutive day in this renewed effort to get the stalled peace process going.

Eckhard said if there is any agreement after today's meeting between Kofi Annan, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash an announcement will be made at the UN seat.

The spokesman said Wednesday's meeting was more positive than Tuesday's meeting.
