EDEK and United Cyprus Party delegations meet
Nicosia, May 28 (CNA) --- President of the Social Democrats Movement
EDEK Yiannakis Omirou and General Secretary of Turkish Cypriot United
Cyprus Party Izzet Izcan met here today for the first time after the
24th April referenda on the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan for
a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.
In his statements after the meeting the T/C politician said that one
should not take advantage of the ''no'' vote of the Greek Cypriots at
the referendum and take actions that would lead to the partition of the
island.
Omirou said that during the meeting they agreed to take initiatives and
organize events to ''promote the climate of mutual understanding among
the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities''.
