Greece says cautious planning could lead to Cyprus solution

    by Christa Nicolaou

Athens, Jun 23 (CNA) - Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman George Koumoutsakos today expressed Greece's support to the good offices mission to Cyprus of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and noted that with cautious planning progress could be achieved in the Cyprus problem.

Referring to yesterday's briefing of the UN Security Council by UN Under Secretary General Sir Kieran Prendergast on his recent visit to Nicosia, Athens and Ankara, Koumoutsakos said ''it was obvious from the discussion that all sides are interested and have a genuine will to resume negotiations and reach a viable solution of the problem, even though the gap between the positions of the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots on the substance seems to have widened.''
