    Cypriot military plane crashes

    URGENT

    Nicosia, Sep 10 (CNA) - A small military plane crashed in a Cypriot village Saturday morning setting fire to an adjacent home, police and witnesses said.

    There were no immediate reports on casualties after the 1012 local time (0712 GMT) crash in the village of Kolossi, west of the island's coastal town of Limassol.

    Two dead from military plane crash

    Limassol, Sep 10 (CNA) -- At least two people have died at a Cypriot army aircraft crash in the village of Kolossi this morning, west of the island's southern coastal town of Limassol.

    Director of the President's Press Office Marios Karoyan told CNA that the aircraft was a PC - 9 (Pilatus). It is one of the two training military aircraft of the National Guard (Cyprus Army) and according to the first reports two people have died, believed to be the two pilots.

    Defence Minister Kyriakos Mavronicolas and National Guard Commander Lieutenant-General Athanasios Nikolodemos have rushed to the area. Ambulances and fire engines are in the area.

    According to CNA sources, the two-seater plane was taking part in a three-day annual National Guard exercise code-named ''Dimitra''.

    Witnesses said they saw a small plane circle over the village twice before crashing into a building site, adding that at least one newly-built house was ablaze. The plane first touched the roof of a nearby church.

    Cyprus House President meets counterparts in New York

    New York, Sep 10 (CNA) - The latest developments in the Cyprus question and Turkey's European course were discussed between Cyprus House of Representatives Demetris Christofias and his counterparts of Bulgaria and Slovakia.

    Christofias who is attending Small States of Europe meeting in New York, met with the President of the Parliament of Bulgaria George Pirinski and the President of the Parliament of Slovakia Pavol Hrusovsky reaffirming the already existing friendly relations between Cyprus and their countries.

    During the meetings it was decided that the Cyprus House and these countries would further enhance their relations and agreed to exchange visits.

    Two Cypriot Military personel killed in air crash

    Nicosia, Sep 10 (CNA) Two Cypriot military personnel, flight lieutenant Ferraios Koulloumos and second flight lieutenant Fotis Konstantinou have died at an aircraft crash in the village of Kolossi, said Defence Minister Kyriakos Mavronicolas. There were no casualties on the ground as the house, owned by a British couple was empty.

    Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, currently in the US for, has expressed deep sorrow and sincere condolences to the relatives of the two victims and has given instructions for a full investigation of the tragic accident.
