    G/C & T/C parties fail to reach consensus on joint communique

    Nicosia Sept 28 (CNA)--Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties, during their regular monthly meeting under the auspices of the Slovak embassy in Cyprus, failed today to reach a consensus on a joint communique due to disagreement on the issue of settlers.

    During today's meeting, the leaders or representatives of the parties from both communities continued the discussion on the settlers issue.

    Nicosia, Sept 28 (CNA) - The European Commission decided on Tuesday during its meeting in Strasbourg, to appoint Cypriot Christos Ellinidis as the Commission's Infrastructure Director in the Information Society Directorate General (DG INFSO)

    Ellinidis is the third Cypriot taking upon high-level duties in the European Commission since Cyprus has entered the European Union.

    Strasbourg, Sept 28 (CNA) Georgia has reassured the Cypriot Government that there is no intention to carry out direct flights to the Turkish - occupied north of the island, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.

    New lab to start work for identification of remains of missing

    Nicosia, Sept 28 (CNA) By the end of the year, a new laboratory will begin operating to identify the remains of 84 persons, that have been exhumed in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus and are believed to be among those missing since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus northern third.

    Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Refugees Aristofanis Georgiou said that the laboratory will be built near Nicosia Airport, in the UN Buffer Zone.

    ''Maritime Cyprus'' ends urging Turkey to lift embargo on Cyprus ship

    Limassol, Sep 28 (CNA) --- Turkey, an EU candidate country, should lift its embargo against Cypriot flagged vessels and thus fully implement the Customs Union Protocol it has already signed late July.

    This was underlined today at a press conference marking the closing of this year's ''Maritime Cyprus 2005'' Conference that took place in the coastal town of Limassol with the participation of European Union top officials and 800 delegates from 35 countries.

    President of the Cyprus Shipping Council Andreas Drousiotis expressed hope that Turkey would lift its embargo against Cypriot ships and airplanes by March 2006 and reminded that Vice President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Jacques Barrot, who also attended the Conference, had said that Turkey has been warned to resolve the issue by 2006.

    Turkish-occupied properties removed from auction list

    London, Sept 28 (CNA) Properties built on Greek Cypriot land in the Turkish occupied north of Cyprus have been removed from the list of an auction, that was to take place in Birmingham this afternoon.

    A house and an apartment under construction in the occupied village of Klepini were about to be sold during an auction of a British real estate company, but were removed from the list following reaction by the Greek Cypriot side.
