[01] UN - BAN`S COMMENTS - CYPRUS
Nothing in UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon` s comments on Wednesday
was intended to signal any change in the UN`s position on the Cyprus
question, a UN spokesman said in New York.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon referred Wednesday in Brussels to the
existence of two countries in Cyprus, something for which the UN has
apologised.
The UN spokesman said ``the Secretary-General is fully aware of the
sensitivity with regard to the terminologies used in discussing the
Cyprus problem.``
[02] OSCE SG - CYPRUS
Cyprus continues to be a great contributor to the work and future of
the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the
organisations Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut said here
after a meeting he had with Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos.
Brichambaut, who is paying an official visit to Cyprus, described his
conversation with the President very good and said he had the privilege
to listen to the President who explained to me the Cypriot point of
view regarding the Cyprus problem and I indicated to him I would always
bare in mind the message he left with me.
I was very happy to meet the President. It is always a great honour to
address one of the heads of state of a participating state of the
Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, as this
organisation is based on strong shared values. Cyprus has been a
founding member since Helsinki in 1975 and continues to be a great
contributor to the work and future of the organisation, he added.
