    Cyprus will symbolically take over the reconstruction and equipment of all residences destroyed by the blazes that have been raging across Greece for the past few days, in one of the affected communities, and the restoration of its residents incomes resources, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said here adding that the community to which Cyprus will offer its help will be indicated by the Government of Greece.

    Papadopoulos called on all individuals and organized groups who have the intention to organize fund-raising charities to contribute whatever they can with generosity and love and solidarity with the tried people of Greece to bank accounts to be opened in all banks of Cyprus, and will operate under the supervision of the Government.

    [02] CYPRIOT FIREMEN - VOLUNTEERS - GREECE FIRES

    Deputy Director of Cyprus` Fire Department and chief of the Cypriot mission to Greece Pambos Charalambous told CNA that the fire in Aliveri of Euboea in Greece, where the Cypriot firemen were sent, was placed under control on Sunday afternoon.

    ``The front we placed under control yesterday afternoon, around 1730 (local time), continues to be under control, despite continuous rekindling, which in some cases was dangerous. We will remain in the area, most probably until tomorrow, because we held this front with great effort. We will keep it until tomorrow to make sure that there is no problem,`` he said.

    Deputy Director of Larnaca District Civil Defence and chief of the Civil Defence mission to Greece Chrysilios Chrysiliou told CNA that there was serious rekindling of the blazes in some areas.

    [03] CYPRUS AWARD QATAR

    President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos awarded Ambassador Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, Permanent Representative of the state of Qatar to the United Nations, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the international community in general and to Cyprus in particular.

    In a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Papadopoulos praised Al-Nasser for the central and decisive role he has played in establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

    In his speech, the Ambassador of Qatar expressed his sincere gratitude for the honor, saying that this gesture is a true reflection of the strong and friendly relations and co- operation between our two countries for which I had the honor to play an important part in promoting and strengthening them.

    [04] CYPRIOT FM SLOVENIA CONFERENCE

    The positions of the Republic of Cyprus on the next European Union enlargement, including Turkeys accession to the Union, were presented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis during an international conference in Bled, Slovenia.

    An official statement said that Marcoullis introduced the Cypriot positions in an intervention during the deliberations of the conference entitled ``EU 2002: Enlargement and Completion``, which is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and attended by other EU foreign ministers as well as senior officials from third countries and international organisations.

    During the conference, Marcoullis held a number of bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Albania, Montenegro and Hungary, as well as high ranking EU officials and the SG of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
