[01] CYPRUS - ARTEMIDA - REBUILDING
The cost of rebuilding a Greek village, destroyed by the recent fires,
is estimated to reach 14 million euro, a Cyprus ministerial committee
has said.
The committee was set up to deal with all the practical issues deriving
from a government decision to undertake the cost of rebuilding the
Greek village of Artemida, struck by the devastating fires that hit
Greece this year.
It was briefed by a five-member delegation of Cypriot technocrats, who
have returned from Artemida where they evaluated the extensive damage
suffered during the recent fires.
[02] UNIVERSITY - EUROPEAN CENTRE
As of this academic year, the University of Cyprus will be hosting a
European Centre of Excellence, which aims at promoting research and
education in European integration matters.
A University of Cyprus press release says that the European Centre of
Excellence, founded as part of the EU Jean Monnet programme, ``will be
studying European institutions and policies and promoting national and
international cooperation and activities``.
[03] BAGHDATIS - CHINA OPEN
China Open defending Champion Marcos Baghdatis advanced to the
quarterfinals on Wednesday, after beating 92 seeded Serbian Boris
Pashanski with 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) sets for the tournament`s second round.
In the quarterfinals, the 18th seeded Cypriot player will face
Croatia`s Ivan Ljubicic who beat earlier Victor Troicki with 2-0
(6-1,6-1).
