    Cypriot Minister of Finance Michalis Sarris has expressed the Government`s satisfaction regarding the European Commission report on Cyprus` progress towards adopting the Euro on 1 January 2008.

    Meanwhile, thirty-three days before the Republic of Cyprus joins the Eurozone, the Ministry of Finance has sent the message to all private businesses to obtain the new currency in time.

    Speaking at a press conference, Sarris said the conclusions of the Commission`s report are very positive regarding both the awareness campaign and the level of preparation of the public and private sectors for the introduction of the Euro.

    ``This report reaffirms the optimism we have regarding our entry to the Eurozone on 1 January 2008,`` Sarris noted.

    [02] CYPRUS - ROMANIA - EDUCATION

    Romanian Minister of Education, Research and Youth Christian Adomnitei has expressed satisfaction from the talks he held on Wednesday in Nicosia with Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture Akis Cleanthous, with whom he discussed ways to cooperate for the introduction of information technology in schools, the teaching of the Romanian language in Cyprus and the exchange of students.

    Speaking after the meeting, both Ministers said they compared their national education systems and examined ways to promote cooperation with an aim of signing agreements in the near future.

    ``I am not only satisfied. I am extremely satisfied. This meeting and its results are beyond my expectations and that is why I am thanking Mr. Kleanthous for the wonderful job he has done and will do in these common projects,`` he said.

    [03] CYPRUS - POLICE - FBI

    Members of the Cypriot Police force were honoured on Wednesday for their participation in the FBI Academy programme held in Quantico, Virginia since 1993.

    The 12 police officers received the right to wear the FBI pin on their jackets and be presented with letters of achievement for their ten-month participation in the FBI programmes.
