Former Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos A died Saturday. He was 80.
The funeral will be held at 1300 local time (1100 GMT) at the Ayios
Ioannis Cathedral in Nicosia. The primate of the Greek Orthodox Church
of Cyprus, Archbishop Chrysostomos will officiate.
The body of Chrysostomos A will lie in state from tomorrow 1600hours.
The Primate of the Cyprus Church Archbishop Chrysostomos B expressed
his profound grief for the Former Archbishops death, noting that he was
a highly spiritual personality, who offered a lot to the island during
difficult times and History will remember him.
Chrysostomos A had been ill and incapacitated for the past years and
was unable to perform his duties as the head of the Church.
Last year, a broad meeting of senior clergymen, chaired by the head of
the Greek Orthodox Church Patriarch Bartholomew, convened in
Switzerland and decided to honourably vacate the position of Archbishop
of the Church of Cyprus.
