[02] PARTY LEADERS - SLOVAKIA
President of the Democratic Rally Nicos Anastasiades said on Wednesday
that Ambassador of Slovakia to Cyprus Anna Turenicova has invited him
and all leaders of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties
to visit Bratislava for the 20th anniversary of the commencement of the
bicommunal dialogue, which began at the initiative of the
Czechoslovakian embassy in Nicosia.
Speaking after a meeting with Turenicova, Anastasiades said the
invitation is for May 14 to 17, noting that on May 15 an official
meeting of the leaders of the political parties from the two
communities in Cyprus will take place, in the presence of the Minister
of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia and other officials.``
Party leaders or representatives from the islands two communities have
been meeting on a regular basis, initially under the Czechoslovakian
embassy and now under the Slovak embassy in Nicosia, to help efforts to
find a negotiated settlement in Cyprus, which has been divided since
1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
