  • [01] CYPRUS - EU - ENERGY

Energy supply security, oil reserves and energy projects have been discussed at the EU Council of Ministers for Energy meeting.

Cyprus was represented at the Council by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Efstathios Hamboullas.

During the meeting, Hamboullas welcomed the new proposed measures for compulsory storage of strategic oil reserves as well as the Commissions announcement regarding measures to secure natural gas supply.

He also noted Cyprus reservations regarding the proposed increase in the level of oil reserves and the economic cost this may bring.

[02] UCY LIBRARY DIRECTOR - INTERVIEW

The Director of the University of Cyprus (UCY) Library Filippos Tsimpoglou believes that the Library plays a role beyong the limits of the University and that it can act as a national research library in Cyprus, with the collaboration of other local libraries.

In an interview with the Cyprus News Agency, the Library Director said that the other libraries in Cyprus should be strengthened with a coordinated plan of development.

Referring to the work of the Library, he explained that the Universitys educational model is a combination of teaching and multiple bibliography, coupled with extended use of the library, something that calls for a good and effective library system.

On cooperation with other libraries in Cyprus and around the world, Tsimpoglou said this is a necessity and not a luxury because nowadays a lot of material is being produced and new sections are created and therefore it is impossible for a library to assemble all the knowledge on its own.
