  • [01] OEB - DOWNER - DONATION

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has made a symbolic donation towards a programme aimed at restoring two religious sites, a Greek Orthodox church in northern Turkish occupied Cyprus and a mosque in the southern coastal town of Limassol.

OEB President Andreas Pittas handed to the UNSG Special Representative in Cyprus Alexander Downer the donation to support the bicommunal project involving the restoration of Arnavut Mosque in Limassol and the church of Archangel Michael in the village of Lefkoniko, in the occupied areas.

The donation was given during a lunch, attended also by Presidential Commissioner, George Iacovou and the Advisor to the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ozdil Nami.

    [02] PAFOS APHRODITE FESTIVAL - ``LAKME`` OPERA

Pafos Aphrodite Festival will present on September 4, 5 and 6 Leo Delibes opera ``Lakme``, at Pafos Medieval Castle, performed by the National Opera of Sofia.

The opera of the French composer Leo Delibes ``Lakme``, in three acts, is considered one of the most exotic operas ever written and its prelude is supposedly one of the most sensual.

It premiered at the Paris Opera Comique on April 14, 1883. The libretto, which is in French, was written by Edmond Condinet and Philippe Gille and is based on Pierre Loti`s novel Rarahuou - LeMariage de Loti, that has strong autobiographical elements.
