  • [01] LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES - FIRST CYPRIOT AMBASSADOR

Ambassador of Cyprus to Egypt, Costas Leontiou, has also been accreted as the Republics first Cypriot Ambassador to the League of Arab States.

According to an official statement issued here today, this week Leontiou paid a courtesy call to the General Secretary of the League of Arab States, Amr Moussa, in Cairo, during which his credentials were accepted.

During the meeting, the Cypriot Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings of the President of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou.

[02] CYPRIOT FIREFIGHTERS - RETURN TO CYPRUS

All teams from Cyprus, which had flown to Greece to help put out the raging wildfires, in northeastern Attiki, have returned home.

The volunteer firefighters arrived at the Andreas Papandreou Airbase on two C-130 transport planes of the Greek Air Force.

The Cypriot volunteers were welcomed by Interior Minister Neoclis Silikiotis.

In his remarks, the Minister said that the Civil Defence Team, which arrived on Wednesday, is very experienced and is made up entirely of volunteers.

We are trying to reinforce these forces as best as we can so that they can respond to these missions both in Cyprus and wherever else necessary, he said.
