The Mayor of the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta, on the eastern coast of Cyprus, Alexis Galanos has stressed that the return of the town to its legitimate inhabitants is a «litmus test» for Turkeys real will for a solution of the Cyprus problem.

Galanos was addressing an event entitled Famagusta A ghost town, hosted recently by the Famagusta Municipality in Madrid.

According to an announcement issued Tuesday, the event, which was organized in cooperation with the embassy of Cyprus in Madrid, Famagusta Municipality and Nicos and Manuella Vardinoyannis Foundation, took place at Circulo de Bellas Artes showroom.

On the sidelines of the event, a photo exhibition on the occupied town was staged, printed material on Famagusta was distributed and a video highlighted the plight of the town.

In his speech, Famagusta Mayor outlined the tragedy experienced by the inhabitants of Famagusta for 36 years and pointed out that the return of the town to its legitimate inhabitants is a «litmus test» for Turkeys real will for a solution of the Cyprus problem.
