[01] CHINESE OFFICIAL VISIT
The Vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People`s
Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the Political
Bureau of the Communist Party of Chinas (CPC) Central Committee, Wang
Gang will pay an official visit to Cyprus on June 8-10, at the
invitation of the Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou.
According to an official announcement, Wang Gang will be received by
the President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and the President of
the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian and meet with the Foreign
Minister. He will also meet with the Secretary General of the
Progressive Party of the Working People, Andros Kyprianou.
[02] GALANOS FAMAGUSTA
Mayor of the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta, Alexis Galanos, has
pointed out that Famagusta is a strong card to be played in order to
reverse the negative climate around the Cyprus problem, adding that,
although there was much talk about no timeframes in the peace effort
for a solution, there were indeed deadlines in other forms.
Speaking at a press conference, Galanos said that mass applications to
the so-called property commission in the Turkish occupied areas by
Greek Cypriot refugees would in fact lead to a solution of the Cyprus
problem on the ground.
He also said that the Cyprus problem was a matter for the Cypriots to
solve up to a certain point, and that the possibility of an
international conference should be looked into.
