Medvedev noted the long-standing and consistent relations of friendship and co-operation between the two countries, based on trust and mutual understanding, adding that there are great prospects for a steady development of bilateral political, commercial, financial and cultural cooperation.

The proximity of the positions of Russia and Cyprus on the majority of fundamental international problems, he said, also constitutes a solid basis for ensuring stability and security both in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Medvedev also conveyed his conviction that joint efforts for the preparation of the first ever official visit of a Russian President to Cyprus will also serve to further strengthen the bilateral relations for the benefit of both peoples.
