  • [01] HARIRI - CYPRUS - VISIT

    Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri arrived in Cyprus on Thursday for an official visit.

    Hariri arrived at the old Larnaca Airport on a private jet and was welcomed by Cypriot Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides, and the Lebanese Charge d` Affaires.

    [02] PALESTINIANS - CYPRUS ISSUE

    The new General Representative of Palestine Walid Hasan has expressed support for the ongoing process for achieving a solution and for the reunification of Cyprus.

    Hasan presented his letters of appointment to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou, who stressed Cyprus support for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state and referred to the initiative undertaken by Cyprus and Greece for the transport of goods to Gaza via Cyprus.

    Moreover at the meeting that followed the presentation of the letters of appointment, Kyprianou briefed Hasan on the direct talks for the solution of the Cyprus problem and referred, in particular, to President Christofias package of proposals, which aim at accelerating the process for achieving a solution of the Cyprus problem.

    Kyprianou welcomed Hasan to Cyprus and wished him success in his mission. He also stressed Cyprus desire to further develop and deepen bilateral relations. Hasan referred to the excellent ties of friendship between Cyprus and Palestine and expressed his gratitude for Cyprus support. He also briefed Minister Kyprianou on the Middle East peace process.

    [03] CLIMATE CHANGE - MINISTER

    Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Minister Demetris Eliades, arrives in Athens on Thursday to take part in the opening session of the Mediterranean Climate Change Initiative that will be held on October 22.

    Eliades was scheduled to leave from Warsaw where he had taken part in a meeting of the Agriculture Ministers of the trio presidency of the European Union, Poland, Denmark and Cyprus, for the second half of 2011 and the whole of 2012.

    [04] KYPRIANOU - FRANCOPHONIE

    Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou, will represent the President of the Republic at the 13th Francophonie Summit, which will be held in Montreux, Switzerland on October 22 24, 2010.

    An official statement said the summits theme is: Challenges and Vision for the Future for Francophonie, while discussions will focus on issues of global governance and democracy, sustainable development and cultural diversity.
