Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has said that an international conference to discuss the international aspects of the Cyprus problem could be convened as long as the two sides in Cyprus are very close to an agreement.

In a written statement, Stephanou also said that there is no new proposal on the issue of properties. He also stressed that Cyprus President Demetris Christofias has prevented through his policy any arbitration or timetables, which have been imposed during previews efforts to solve the problem in 2004.

The Minister said that the Council faces unprecedented challenges as it is trying to plan for a future of which many important aspects are not yet known, since the leaders of the two communities are still engaged in negotiations.

He also noted that dialogue with Cyprus partners in the EU Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom - is necessary and would give important feedback as to how they addressed such situations, with a view to avoid any mistakes and disappointments and adopt options that have led to successes and optimism.
