    Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has said that an international conference to discuss the international aspects of the Cyprus problem could be convened as long as the two sides in Cyprus are very close to an agreement.

    In a written statement, Stephanou also said that there is no new proposal on the issue of properties. He also stressed that Cyprus President Demetris Christofias has prevented through his policy any arbitration or timetables, which have been imposed during previews efforts to solve the problem in 2004.

    [02] SYLIKIOTIS - RECONSTRUCTION - RESETTLEMENT

    Interior Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis has said that the Cyprus government has been working with dedication and persistence with a view to reach a political settlement of the Cyprus problem, which is going through a critical period.

    Speaking during a seminar of the Council for Reconstruction and Resettlement From Conflict to Partnership The Environment of Reconstruction attended by experts from Northern Ireland, Sylikiotis said that we are in the process of seeking peace, ways of coexistence of communities in Cyprus and of good neighbourhood with our neighbouring states, adding that we know that there is no easy way towards peace.

    The Minister said that the Council faces unprecedented challenges as it is trying to plan for a future of which many important aspects are not yet known, since the leaders of the two communities are still engaged in negotiations.

    He also noted that dialogue with Cyprus partners in the EU Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom - is necessary and would give important feedback as to how they addressed such situations, with a view to avoid any mistakes and disappointments and adopt options that have led to successes and optimism.

    [03] BAGHDATIS - KREMLIN CUP FINAL

    Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis, World number 19, advanced to the Kremlin Cup final after rallying past Uzbek Denis Istomin, ranked 46th , 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2) on Saturday.

    The world number 19, the highest seed left in the men`s draw, battled for nearly two and a half hours before beating Istomin.

    In his third final this season, Baghdatis will face Viktor Troicki, ranked 43 in the world. The Serbian player defeated Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-3 and has not dropped a set this week.
