  • [01] LEADERS AIDES MEETING

The top aides to the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus held a meeting Tuesday in the framework of the ongoing UN-led negotiations for a solution of the Cyprus problem.

According to reliable sources, George Iacovou and Kudret Ozersay, advisors to Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu respectively, discussed about the chapters of governance and power sharing and exchanged views on the chapter of economy.

The two aides agreed to continue their discussion during their next meeting, scheduled to take place on Thursday.

The same sources told CNA that it is not yet known when the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus will hold a new meeting, given the fact that Dervis Eroglu is recuperating after undergoing a heart surgery last week in Ankara.

The Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides have been engaged in direct negotiations since September 2008 to find a mutually agreed settlement that will reunite the country, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
