President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will meet on Friday afternoon in the framework of the UN-backed direct negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus problem.

Todays meeting will mark the 100th meeting under the current process, which started in September 2008.

The meeting will begin on 16:00 (1400 GMT) and will be held at the residence of the Special Representative of United Nations Secretary General in Cyprus, in the UN protected area of Nicosia Airport.

In their previous meeting, Christofias and Eroglu discussed the issue of citizenship.

In statements after the meeting, held on March 9, President Christofias said a ``huge gap`` separates the two sides on this issue.

The UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer, in statements on Thursday, pointed out the need to keep the momentum going in the talks for a solution of the Cyprus problem, and noted that the leaders of the two communities needed to work their way through the issue of citizenship and that the UN wanted to ``tidy up`` the issues of property and territory.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
