  • [01] NICOSIA COURT BRITON USURPATION CASE

    Nicosia District Court remanded in custody for eight days Thursday British national Gary Robb, in connection with the usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties in the Turkish occupied north of Cyprus.

    The suspect was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Cypriot authorities, and was handed over to Cyprus Police officers yesterday in London.

    [02] EXCAVATIONS FINDINGS

    The 2011 archaeological investigations at the Bronze Age (ca. 2000-1500 B.C.) site of Politiko-Troullia, revealed extensive evidence of the Bronze Age community that was the predecessor of ancient Tamassos, the seat of a centrally important kingdom during the subsequent Iron Age.

    Politiko-Troullia is situated about 25 km southwest of Nicosia near Ayios Irakleidios Monastery in the copper-bearing foothills of the Troodos Mountains.

    The completion of the investigations, conducted under the direction of Dr Steven Falconer and Dr Patricia Fall of Arizona State University, has been announced Thursday by the Ministry of Communications and Works, Department of Antiquities.

    [03] CYPRUS EUROPEAN BASKETBALL TOUR

    The European Basketball Tour - Cyprus 2011 kicks off Friday with the national teams of Greece, Israel, Russia, Italy, Bulgaria and Poland.

    The European Basketball Tour - Cyprus 2011 takes place 5 - 7 August and is the largest basketball tournament preparation for the European Championship to be held this year.
