    Cyprus` EU presidency during the second half of 2012 will be successful, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has assured, noting that the government will continue efforts to meet EU expectations.

    Speaking at Larnaca Airport, on his return from Brussels, Stephanou said ``Cyprus, in view of its European presidency, is giving exams every day and passing with high grades.``

    ``Everything that President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso said at the joint press conference with President Christofias yesterday in Brussels send a clear message that the Cypriot presidency will be successful.``

    [02] EU Commissioner for taxation to visit Cyprus

    EU Commissioner for taxation and customs Algirdas Semeta is due to visit Cyprus, on Friday.

    According to an press release issued by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus Semeta will meet Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Sotriroula Charalambous, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Auditor General of the Republic Chrystalla Georghadji.

    He will also meet with representatives of the Cypriot banking and financial services sector.

    “The aim of my visit is to discuss tax files that are key to strengthening the single market, enhancing growth and helping fiscal consolidation”, said Semeta in the statement.
