    The Leaders and representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties agreed once again during theéń regular meeting held today in Ledra Palace, that a solution to the Cyprus problem based on a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality and on the relevant UN resolutions is urgently needed.

    The political parties of both communities expressed opinions on the issue proposed by the hosting party left – wing AKEL titled “Will the return of the fenced city of Famagusta and the opening of its port under the auspices of the European Union contribute to an early solution of the Cyprus problem and to the greater prosperity for the benefit of the two communities and of all Cypriots?”.

    They once again agreed that the solution to the Cyprus problem based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality and on the relevant UN resolutions is urgently needed, according to the joint communique Slovak Ambassador to Cyprus Anna Turenicova read out following the meeting.

    [02] Archbishop of Cyprus awarded “Pride of Russia” medal

    Russian “Pride of the Homeland” foundation has awarded Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II with “Pride of Russia” medal. President of the foundation Nikolai Antonski conveyed to the Archbishop the gratitude of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people.

    The Archbishop thanked him for the honor, saying that he feels that this expression of love and honor does not belong only to him but to the whole Church of Cyprus and its members.

    “Ties of spirit are much stronger than ties of blood and I have never restricted myself within the limits of the Cypriot Church”, the Archbishop said, pointing out that he is considering the best interest of all Orthodox around the world.

    The Archbishop said that if there are difficulties and problems in relations between the Orthodox Churches, this is because many people raise first the nationality of their local Church and secondly their Christian identity.

    The head of the Church of Cyprus expressed to the President and the Prime Minister of Russia his appreciation for the support of the country to Cyprus’ national issue.

    [03] Cyprus December `11 Industrial Turnover Index declines by 2.5%

    Cyprus` Industrial Turnover Index for December 2011 reached 127,0 units (base 2005=100), marking a decrease of 2,5% year on year.

    According to figures released by Cyprus Statistical Service, for the period January-December 2011, the index recorded a decrease of 1,5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

    For Manufacturing, the index for December 2011 reached 114,8 units, recording a decrease of 8.5% compared to December 2010.
