  • [01] Cypriot policemen support security team at European Council

A team of police officers from Cyprus is currently in Brussels, providing support to the police security team of the European Council.

The Cypriot force comprises eleven policemen from the Cyprus Police Emergency Response Unit and two from the Presidential Guard Unit.

Their presence in Brussels is provided by a relevant decision by the Committee of Permanent Representatives II (COREPER II) in October 2010, which notes that the country holding the presidency of the Council of the EU shall provide support to the security team of the Council during the European Council meetings that take place during its six month term.
