[01] EP Plenary approves Papadopoulou's report on European Year of
Citizens
The Plenary of the European Council approved on Tuesday in Strasburg
the report of the Cypriot MEP Antigoni Papadopoulou on the "European
Year of Citizens (2013). The report was approved by the EP Plenary with
518 votes in favour, 63 against and 19 abstentions.
Speaking to CNA, Cypriot MEP responsible for drafting the EP opinion,
Antigoni Papadopoulou said that the adoption of the proposal of
designating 2013 as the European Year of Citizens is of great importance
for Cyprus.
In her statement to CNA, Papadopoulou said that the decision is very
important for Cyprus because the issue was completed during the Cyprus
Presidency of the EU, and because of the ongoing violation of several
freedoms and rights of the people of Cyprus due to the Turkish occupation
of the islands' northern third.
[02] New record-breaking passenger traffic at Pafos International Airport
A new record-breaking passenger traffic at Pafos International Airport
was announced on Tuesday by Hermes Airports Ltd, the company in charge
of the management and control of Larnaka International Airport and Pafos
International Airport.
A press release issued by the company said that according to the latest
records, from 01 January 2012 to 22 October 2012, more than 2,000,000
passengers travelled via Pafos International Airport. This is the first
time in the Airport's 29 year history that the record of 2 million
passengers has been achieved. In comparison with last year`s figures
this means a significant increase of 28% which shatters the previous
record of 2006 when 1,832,655 passengers passed through Pafos Airport,
as it is noted.
