[01] Commerce Minister addresses Friends of Europe`s annual Energy
Policy Summit
The differentiation of resources, routes and energy providers can
enhance energy supply security and contribute to the normalization of
the fluctuation of energy prices, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister
Neoklis Sylikiotis said, adding that recent discovery of hydrocarbons in
the Southern Eastern Mediterranean allows such an opportunity for the EU.
Speaking during Friends of Europe's annual Energy Policy Summit entitled
"A new Europe energy policy for the 21st century" held November 6 in
Brussels, Sylikiotis said that the right energy policy for the region,
particularly in relation to third countries, guarantees political
stability and therefore energy security.
According to an official press release issued here, in his intervention
during the session on "Europe's Energy Outlook: Future Challenges
and Opportunities", Sylikiotis said that even though it is required
to promote policies for the Renewable Energy Resources and energy
production, it cannot be ignored that mineral fuels, and specifically
the natural gas, will continue to play an important role in the
energy mixture of the EU. Referring to the importance of the role of
the energy sector in reversing the impacts of the financial crisis,
Sylikitis said that evaluations are that five million new jobs in the
fields of Renewable Energy Sources and energy production.
[02] Rate of inflation in Cyprus dropped to 2.6% in October
The rate of inflation in Cyprus for October 2012 dropped to 2.6%,
compared to 3.6% in September 2012 and 3.2% in October 2011.
According to the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus, the
Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices for the first 10 months of 2012 was
3.4%, compared to the same period of 2011.
