[01] Trade unionists protest outside PR of Cyprus to the EU
Trade unionists gathered Wednesday morning outside the Premises of the
Embassy and Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU in Brussels,
peacefully protesting against the austerity policies of the EU
The trade unionists were taking part in the European manifestations
taking place in many European countries against austerity measures.
Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus Andreas Mavroyiannis
talked to protesters for a few minutes, saying that times are indeed
tough for Europe, and that the EU is doing everything possible.
[02] Cyprus joins in the Day of Action and Solidarity called by ETUC
Cyprus joins its voice in today`s "Day of Action and Solidarity" called
by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) across Europe.
The ETUC strongly opposes the austerity measures which are plunging
Europe into economic stagnation, recession, and dismantling the European
social model. These measures, far from restoring confidence, are only
aggravating imbalances and creating injustices.
The ETUC is also deeply concerned at the dramatic rise in unemployment
in Europe, and the increasing inequality and poverty which undermines
the European Social Model.
