  • [01] MFF, public procurement and European Semester, focus of Conference

The Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), Public Procurement and the European Semester were the focus of a Conference of Chairpersons of Finance Committees of EU member states, which took place on Monday, in Nicosia.

Addressing the conference, Cyprus Parliament's Chairman of the Committee on Financial and Budgetary Affairs Nicholas Papadopoulos referred to the importance of concluding negotiations and agreeing a fair and effective MFF as soon as possible.

The financial crisis and the debt crisis in the eurozone have brought to light important issues, he said, adding that effectively dealing with them is the greatest challenge Europe is faced with today.

[02] Franco-Cypriot bilateral ties the focus of Education Minister's visit to France

The enhancement of Franco - Cypriot bilateral relations in education will be discussed at a meeting Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture Giorgos Demosthenous will have with French Minister of National Education François Peillon, in Paris, on Wednesday.

In statements to the press, Demosthenous said that after the completion of an EU Ministers of Education Council in Brussels, he has been invited by the French Parliament to address an event, in his capacity as the presiding minister of the EU Council of Ministers of Education. Demosthenous' address will focus on the role and significance of languages in dialogue in an event organised by the International Organisation of Francophony and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"In the margins of this event I will meet with French Minister of Education and we will discuss matters of common interest and the further enhancement of bilateral relations in areas of education and culture", he said.
