  • [01] Aletraris: CAP allows for improvement of Cypriot farmers` income

The new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the goals set for all EU member states, as well as the proposed regulation on agricultural development, can help increase the income of Cypriot farmers, utilising and not destroying the country`s natural wealth, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Sophocles Aletraris said on Monday.

Addressing a regional gathering to discuss CAP with farmers, Aletraris said it was an opportunity for the farmers to draft an Agricultural Development Programme in cooperation with the Ministry`s technocrats.

He pointed out that Cyprus` economy was going through a rough patch, and that the government would find ways to include measures in the farmers` programme, which would "bring us closer to viable agriculture that will secure food safety and farmers` income, and will contribute to further rural development."
