[01] Ambassador Korneliou: Cyprus gains from EU experience
Representative of Cyprus at the EU, Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou,
has said that Cyprus has gained a lot from its six month experience at
the helm of the Council of the EU.
Korneliou also referred to the numerous successes during the Cyprus
Presidency, such as the unitary patent package (an issue that was on the
table for 30 years ), the agreement reached by the Ministers of Finance
to set up a Single Supervisory Mechanism for the oversight of credit
institutions as well as issues in the area of justice and home affairs.
Addressing an event at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus at the EU
in Brussels, in the presence of Cyprus President Demetris Christofias,
Ambassador Korneliou laid emphasis on the agreement on the SSM saying
that "after fifteen hours of negotiations at the ECOFIN, the Cyprus
EU Presidency managed to close a dossier on the baking union which is
"another major success, one of many successes by the Cyprus Presidency".
[02] PIMCO results instrumental in determining Cyprus program, IMF says
PIMCO preliminary assessment results will be instrumental in determining
the financing of a potential Cyprus program, IMF Spokesman Gerry Rice
has said.
Rice was replying to a question on the progress achieved in talks with
the Cyprus government on an international rescue agreement.
"The discussion between the Cypriot authorities and the IMF and our
partners in the EU Commission and ECB are continuing from the respective
headquarters with a view to making further progress toward a potential
program with Cyprus", he noted.
