  • [01] FM issues travel advice for Egypt

    ‘he Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Cypriot citizens residing, visiting or intending to travel to Egypt to exercise caution and avoid visiting public areas or areas where mass gatherings occur.

    "Cypriot citizens are encouraged to keep abreast of local and international media coverage of events (especially the Internet) and to follow the instructions of the Authorities", the FM says in a travel advice issued Tuesday.

    In case of emergency, Cypriot citizens are called to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Cairo or/and the Duty Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on +357 99 660129 (outside normal working hours).

    [02] EU grants Cyprus 4.1 mln for projects under the LIFE+ programme

    European Commission on Wednesday approved a funding of 4.1 million euro for Cyprus for projects that fall under the EU Life+ programme, the EU's environmental fund.

    The EC has approved funding for 248 new projects which cover actions in the fields of nature conservation, climate change, environmental policy and information and communication on environmental issues across all Member States.

    As regard Cyprus, the 4.1 mln cover three projects. The first one is called LIFE LIVE-WASTE and will be implemented by the Cyprus University of Technology. The second project LIFE+ SmartPV will be put into practice by the University of Cyprus . The LIFE-RIZOELIA project of the Department of Forests has a primary aim to promote and enable the long-term conservation in Cyprus of two protected habitats.

    [03] Greek FM pays Cyprus a visit Friday

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Greece Evaggelos Venizelos will pay Cyprus a one - day visit this Friday.

    According to the program of his visit, Venizelos will be received by President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades. He will have separate meetings with President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II.

    In the afternoon, the Greek Foreign Minister will hold separate meetings with the leaders or representatives of Cypriot parliamentarian parties. Venizelos and his entourage will depart for Athens on the same evening.
