  • [01] Minister of Health met his Greek counterpart in Athens

Bilateral issues and the prospects for further strengthening cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the field of health, were discussed by Minister of Health Petros Petrides and his Greek counterpart Adonis Georghiades in a meeting they had in Athens.

According to an official announcement, Petrides represented Cyprus at the conference "Health in Action", which took place on 12 and 13 December in Athens.

The conference was organised at the initiative of the Greek Government, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, focusing on the reorganisation of the health sector in Greece.

[02] Emissions and invasive species discussed at EU Council

Greenhouse gas emissions and the spread of invasive alien species were the main issues discussed at the EU Environment Council, where Cyprus was represented by Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Nicos Kouyialis.

The EU Ministers discussed establishing a system to monitor, submit reports and verify greenhouse gas emissions by international shipping, as a first step to reduce carbon monoxide emissions.

Kouyialis said such a system should be decided on an international level, and pointed out various issues that should be taken into account, such as international law, the protection of the confidentiality of commercial data, and competitiveness.
