  • [01] KRETYK, CPC discuss job prospects in gas field

    Training and future employment of Cypriots in the natural gas industry was discussed between Chairman of Cyprus' Hydrocarbon State Company (KRETYK) Charalambos Ellinas and Director of the Cyprus Productivity Centre (CPC) Dinos Kathijotis.

    According to a press release, during the meeting Ellinas briefed CPC Director on the latest developments and the two had the opportunity to exchange views on these important issues.

    KRETYK outlined future needs in qualified personnel which will arise with the start of construction work for the terminal in Vasiliko region in 2016, on behalf of Noble company, and the development of blocks 2, 3, 9 , 10 and 11 by the companies EMI / KOGAS and Total in the next ten years.

    [02] CoE Ministers to examine Turkey's failure to implement ECHR judgment on Cyprus

    Turkey's failure to implement the European Court of Human Rights' judgment on the «Varnava and others vs Turkey» case will be examined by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

    The representatives of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe will examine implementation of the judgments and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights on 5-7 March 2013.

    This supervisory role of the Committee of Ministers is provided for under Article 46 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

    [03] Presidential elections - Final results island wide

    The results island wide in the first round of the presidential elections that took place on Sunday with 100% votes counted are: Nicos Anastasiades 45.46%, Stavros Malas 26.91%, Giorgos Lillikas 24.93%, Praxoulla Antoniadou - Kyriakou 0.61%, Lakis Ioannou 0.29%, George Charalambous 0.88%, Loucas Stavrou 0.05%, Andreas Efstratiou 0.10%, Costas Kyriacou (Utopos) 0.16%, Solon Gregoriou 0.18%, Makaria Antri Stylianou 0.43%.

    A candidate needs to secure 50% plus one vote to be elected. If no candidate secures this majority, the two candidates to secure most of the votes will go into a run off election. Anastasiades and Malas will be the two candidates for next Sunday's second round.
