  • [01] Cypriot photographers win prizes in international competition

Cypriot photographers are among photographers from around the globe who have won prizes in an international photographic competition.

The exhibition ‘Cooperation' was organised by `The Meeting Point`, which is an initiative supported by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and operated by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR).

More than 400 photographs were entered into the competition, both from Cyprus and across the world (India, Bangladesh, Canada, U.S.A., Qatar, Hungary, Finland, U.K. etc.). Cooperation takes on a new meaning through the exquisite images that made it to the final exhibition.

[02] Situation in Brazil has normalized but protests remain unpredictable, Cypriot Ambassador tells CNA

Situation in Brazil has normalized but protests remain unpredictable, since they are being organized through social media, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Martha Mavromattis has told CNA from the capital, Brasilia.

The Foreign Ministry in Nicosia issued a press release, urging Cypriot citizens that reside in Brazil or intend to travel in the country, to avoid visiting public areas or areas where mass gatherings occur.

Mavromattis stressed that this is a travel advisory, similar to one's issued by other EU members. Massive demonstrations during the last days occurred suddenly and nobody was expecting such a thing, she added.

The events happened mostly in cities where the Confederations cup took place. "Only the final football match remains, in the coming Sunday, July 30th".

A large demonstration is expected to go ahead in Rio, where protesters are planning to march towards the Maracana stadium before the Confederations cup final, while in July trade unions are planning a national strike, the Ambassador mentioned.
