- Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Costas Petrides, has returned to Cyprus from Argentina where he signed an agreement of co-operation on matters of agriculture and veterinary services.

- President Clerides speaking at the opening yesterday (18.11.96) of the 17th exhibition of gold and silverware, said that about two thousand people are currently employed in the industry, which generates about CP20 million a year and brings in a revenue of between CP8-10 million in foreign exchange.

- Education Minister Claire Angelides speaking at a press conference by the Youth Board on Drugs, said that the establishment of the Centre for Training for Life would help prevent the spread of drugs on the island.

- A film by Cypriot director Andreas Pantzis has shared the best film award at the 37th Salonica Film Festival with a film by a Greek director. "Sfagi to Kokora" (the slaughter of the cock) is an international co-production of Cyprus, Greece and Italy with the participation of Sweden, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and Syria and the support of the Council of Europe's EURIMAGES.

- British official Simon Smith, who is the Assistant Head of the Southern European Department at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has arrived in Cyprus for a week-long familiarisation visit.
