[01] Cabinet reshuffle decided

The President of the Republic Mr Glafcos Clerides has decided to reshuffle his Cabinet.

This was announced by Government Spokesman Yiannakis Cassoulides at the end of a Cabinet meeting this morning.

He said that President Clerides thanked all his Ministers for their services so far adding that he is satisfied with the work they have performed. The reason he is reshuffling the Government is to renew the Cabinet and it is a political act.

The Ministers thanked President Clerides for the confidence entrusted to them for over four years and tendered their resignation to him.

[02] New Cabinet announced

The President of the Republic, Mr Glafcos Clerides, today made a partial reshuffle of his government.

The new Ministers are the following:

Dr Yiannakis Cassoulides, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicos Koshis, Minister of Justice and Public Order Georghios Hadjinicolaou, Minister of Education and Culture Christos Solomis, Minister of Health Leontios Ierodiaconou, Minister of Communications and Works.

Also Mr Manolis Christofides has been appointed Government Spokesman.

The new Ministers will give the prescribed affirmation at 9 a.m. tomorrow before the President of the Republic.

[03] Contracts for new Nicosia General Hospital signed

Contracts for the new Nicosia General Hospital, expected to cost 37,5 million Cyprus pounds (around 75 million US dollars), were signed yesterday by Health Minister, Manolis Christofides.

According to the Minister, the foundation stone for the 430-bed hospital will be laid on April 14, marking exactly 58 years to the day the foundation stone was laid for the existing Nicosia General Hospital in 1939. Construction work will begin on May 5 and is expected to finish in about 5 years time.

It will be situated in the southeastern Nicosia suburb of Athalassa on approximately 13 hectares of land.

Other facilities will also be built on the site, like a Nursing School and a Training Medical Centre.

[04] European "School Links and exchanges"

A training seminar for high school teachers aiming to strenghten ties between Cypriot and European schools started in Nicosia yesterday.

The seminar "School links and exchanges" is sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Culture in cooperation with the Council of Europe. It is part of the Education Ministry's effort to promote a European aspect to education and the principles and values on which the future of a multi- cultural Europe will be based.

Experts from the Council of Europe will teach at the seminar and it will be repeated so that teachers from all districts in Cyprus may participate.
