    [01] P>

The 11th World Congress of overseas Cypriots will be held between 22-26 August in Nicosia.

Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kassouldes will address the Congress and will brief the delegates on recent developments in the Cyprus Problem.

The Congress will deal with various issues relating to overseas Cypriots (census of overseas population, repatriation, cultural activities etc.) as well as other issues affecting Cypriots living abroad.

    [02] P>

Cypru's Ambassador to the Netherlands Mr. Alexandros Zenon signed yesterday the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the event of Armed Conflict.

The new Protocol enhances the efficiency of the Convention.

At the initiative of the Cyprus delegation an article on the protection of Cultural Heritage was incorporated in the Convention.

Article 9 of the Convention stipulates that a country which occupies part of or the whole of another country is obliged to prohibit or prevent every illegal export or transfer of cultural heritage.

It should also prohibit and prevent archaeological excavations and must avert any change in the use of cultural heritage, which aims at its destruction.

The new Protocol, also includes articles that attribute legal obligations in cases where the Convention is violated.

Moreover it includes specific provisions that relate to incidents resulting from the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus.
