The General Assembly of the State of New Jersey (US), adopted on 19th July 2001, a resolution by which it condemns the Turkish invasion and continuous occupation of Cyprus.

The resolution reads, inter alia, that 200.000 people were forcibly displaced from their homes and a large number of Cypriot people who were captured during the invasion including American citizens are still missing. In addition, the resolution condemns the destruction of the historical monuments in the Turkish occupied area of Cyprus.

The New Jersey General Assembly emphasized the need for a solution to the Cyprus problem, after the 27 year deadlock, based on all relevant UN resolutions which will unite the island and its people and where all Cypriots will be able to live in conditions of peace, security and full enjoyment of human rights.
