[01] Mauritius condemns occupation of Cyprus by Turkey

The Republic of Mauritius condemns unreservedly the continuous occupation of a large part of Cyprus territory by Turkey and will continue to give every possible support both at the UN Security Council and other international fora for a just solution to the Cyprus problem within the framework of the UN resolutions on Cyprus. This was stated by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Cassam Uteem at the presentation of the credentials of the New High Commissioner of Cyprus, Mr Elias Eliades, to his country.

The Cypriot Commissioner briefed Mr Uteem both on the recent developments in the Cyprus problem and Cyprus/ accession process towards the European Union. The President of Mauritius expressed the hope that Cyprus/ accession to the EU would serve as a bridge for friendly countries, like the Republic of Mauritius, towards the united Europe.

The two men had also discussed ways for further enhancement of the bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of tourism.
