JOIN EFFORT TO GENERATE CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORT FOR CYPRUS RESOLUTION

Greek-American leaders across the country are urged to join the effort to help secure congressional support for the newly-introduced Cyprus resolution -- H. Con. Res. 81, titled "Calling for a United States Initiative Seeking a Just and Peaceful Resolution of the Situation on Cyprus." This resolution was introduced in the House of Representatives by the chairman of the House International Relations Committee, Congressman Ben Gilman (R-NY).

Please call or write your member of Congress (most of whom are at home in their congressional districts this week) to urge them to do the following for H. Con. Res. 81:

1. Cosponsor the resolution (immediately); and

If they are one of the 48 members of the House International Relations Committee, when the committee considers this resolution (which is expected in early June) they should,

2. (a) speak in support of the resolution; and (b) vote for the resolution.

The other original cosponsors of this resolution are: the ranking minority member on the House International Relations Committee, Congressman Lee Hamilton (D-IN), longtime Cyprus advocates Congressmen John Porter (R-IL) and Eliot Engel (D-NY), and the co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, Congressman Michael Bilirakis (R-FL) and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY).

To obtain the full text of this important resolution, go to the U.S. Congress web page at "http://thomas.loc.gov" and search for the bill by its number -- "H. Con. Res. 81"

Greek-American leaders spearheading the effort to secure congressional support for this resolution include: Philip Christopher, president of the Pancyprian Association of America and PSEKA; Andrew A. Athens, national chairman of UHAC and who in another capacity serves as the president of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE); Andrew E. Manatos, president of the National Coordinated Effort of Hellenes; Nikos Mouyiaris, executive vice president of the Pancyprian Association; Panicos Papanicolaou, president of the Cyprus Federation of America; and Charles Marangoudakis, president of UHAC New York.
