    [01] U.S Ambassador gives reception in the occupied area

    According to KIBRIS (11.4.96) the U.S Ambassador to Cyprus Richard Boucher gave a reception last night in the house he had rented in the occupied area.

    KIBRIS claims that the reception "was an official one for Boucher's Turkish friends".

    The reception started at around 19.00 hours and lasted for two hours.

    Present at the reception were foreign diplomats accredited to Cyprus and Turkish Cypriot leaders and party representatives. Among the foreign guests were EU ambassador Gilles Anouil, UN Secretary General deputy special representative in Cyprus Gustave Feissel and British High Commissioner to Cyprus David Madden. (MY)

    [02] Iranian escapes from Denktash's "police", flees to the free areas.

    According to KIBRIS (11.4.96) one of the Iranians who crossed into the occupied area from the free areas has managed to escape from Denktash's "police" custody and return to the free areas.

    KIBRIS says that Iranian Mohsin Mansudl Arbaty, following his escape, found a taxi driver and threatening him with a knife forced him to drive to the occupied village of Katokopia from where he crossed into the free areas. He had been caught by Denktash's "police" with another Iranian on April 5. (MY)

    [03] Austrian found dead in the occupied area

    According to KIBRIS (11.4.96) Gerhard Tippet (58) from Austria, who was working at the occupied Trapeza power station, has been found dead in his flat in occupied Kyrenia.

    KIBRIS says that the exact cause of his death will be known after an autopsy is carried out.(MY)
