[A] NEW ITEMS[01] Serdar Denktas in Austria for contactsIllegal Bayrak television (29.06.04) broadcast that the so-called Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the regime in the areas of Cyprus under Turkish military control, Mr Serdar Denktas, left for the Austrian capital Vienna today for contacts. According to the information provided by Kudret Akay, so-called Political Affairs Adviser, Serdar Denktas will attend an event organized by a Viennese university and deliver a lecture on the Cyprus issue. Serdar Denktas will also brief during his contacts in Vienna on the latest Cyprus situation. He will return to the occupied areas of Cyprus on Thursday night.[02] Press statement by the Turkish Cypriot businessmen on the restrictions imposed by the occupation regime on the movement of goods from the free to the occupied areas of the Republic of CyprusTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (30.06.04) repots that the Turkish Cypriot Businessmenīs Association (ISAD) has issued a statement asking the "government" of the occupation regime to apply the rules of the European Union during the trade to be conducted between the free and the occupied areas of Cyprus.With the statement, signed by the chairman of ISAD, Mr Unsal Ozbilenler and the member of its committee, Mr Metin Yalcin, the association expresses its sorrow for the restrictions applied by the decision of the "council of ministers" of the regime on the movement of goods from the free to the occupied areas of Cyprus. According to the statement, the decision will create difficulties to the efforts of the Turkish Cypriots to be unified with the EU. The businessmen stress also that the decision will at the same time endanger the opportunities which the Turkish Cypriots will be given with the Green Line Regulations and serve the continuation of the isolation. "The fact that the Council of Ministers of the TRNC took a decision in the direction of the continuation of the restrictions on the imports from southern Cyprus, at a period when the EU Commission is working on the application and the improvement of the Green Line Regulations, was followed with regret and surprise", noted the Turkish Cypriot businessmen and added: "As it is understood, with this decision our government is trying to prevent the entrance from the south to the Turkish side of products from Turkey, which will be forced to enter into a customs union with South Cyprus in accordance with the existing agreements. However, the high economic income that could be derived from the movement of products from Turkey to the south via the north in case the regulations are improved and applied and the fact that in this manner the north too will be entering the customs union are not taken into consideration. '". [03] Baris Burcu and Mustafa Akinci from the Peace and Democracy Movement explain the reasons which led to the deadlock over the establishment of a new pseudogovernmentTurkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (30.06.04) publishes statements by Mr Baris Burcu, who carried out the negotiations on behalf of the Peace and Democracy Movement (PDM) over the issue of the establishment of a three-party coalition "government" in the pseudostate. In addition, the leader of the PDM, Mr Mustafa Akinci, also made statements as regards the developments of this effort.Mr Burcu stated that the Republican Turkish Party (RTP) of Mehmet Ali Talat and the Democratic Party (DP) of Serdar Denktas did not support the issues of democratisation and the limiting of military power and that the two parties were against the PDM's demand that the "police", which is under the army, to come under the so-called Ministry of Interior. He also said that the RTP, which stated in the past that it will work for the abolition of the status quo, now, is avoiding the issue. Mr Burcu also said that his party could not come to an understanding with RTP and DP as regards a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem, based on the Annan Plan. In addition, the leader of the PDM, Mr Akinci stated that he felt annoyed because the fact that the three parties were not able to come into an agreement was presented as "a fight for the chair (the power)". Mr Akinci stated that the real problems between the three parties were about the issues of democratisation and the limiting of military power. The leader of the PDM also said that the wish of his party for a cooperation protocol which it would be harmonized with the wish that the Turkish Cypriots expressed with the 24 April referendum could not become a reality. Stating that "50 days were wasted", Mr Akinci also added that the PDM will have a meeting tonight in which it will evaluate the problems over the establishment of a pseudogovernment. He said that if the party's demand are not met, the issue of early "election" could even be put on the agenda. [04] New Turkish Cypriot Party of the centre right was establishedTurkish Cypriot daily HALKIN SESI (30.06.04) reports that Salih Cosar, former chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), who recently resigned from it, established a new centre right party named the "Free Thought Party".The Chairman of the new party is Salih Cosar, who was Minister of Interior during Dervis Eroglu/ Serdar Denktas' so-called coalition government. Among the members of the executive committee of the party are Ahmet Kasif and Unal Ustel, the "MPs" who resigned from the DP. Other members are Ergun Vehbi, Kemal Havali and Aslan Bicakli.
