[01] A memorandum of understanding signed between the KTTO and TOBB for the formation of "Turkey-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum"

Illegal Bayrak (04.07.18 http://www.brtk.net/?englishposts=turkey-trnc-relations-5 ) broadcast that a meeting on "Turkey-TRNC economic relations" which was organized by the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO) and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) was held yesterday.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the KTTO and TOBB after the meeting for the formation of "Turkey-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum."

The opening speeches of the event were delivered by "prime minister" Tufan Erhurman, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Turgay Deniz and the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Rifat Hisarc?kl?oglu.

The General Secretary of KTTO Aysun Onet Ileri and the Director of the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey Prof. Dr. Guven Sak delivered presentations on "Turkey-TRNC trade and investment relations".

Speaking first, Deniz claimed that the Turkish Cypriots were forced to live under unfair isolation. He condemned the EU as well as the international community of remaining silent over this issue Stating that condemning the international community did not mean that the Turkish Cypriots did not want a settlement in Cyprus, Deniz pointed out that the Turkish Cypriots needed to develop themselves economically whilst the search for a settlement continue.

Hisarc?kl?oglu in his speech said that the "TRNC" had a historical, cultural and economic importance forTurkey.

He said that work carried out by the Turkish government on creating investment areas could be implemented in the "TRNC".

"We believe that the TRNC will take necessary steps to increase investments in the country" he added.

Erhurman for this part highlighted "the importance of Turkey for the TRNC economy which he added is experiencing isolation from the rest of the world".

Pointing out that there are a number of problems in the "TRNC" that have been going on for years, Erhurman said that the time to talk is over and that it is time to take action.

"We need to spend all our energy for the future. The Turkish Cypriot people are experiencing a confidence problem. We need to overcome this first. We have both the capacity and the strength to succeed" he argued.

In addition, illegal Barrak (04.07.18 http://www.brtk.net/?englishposts=tobb-delegation-visits-trnc-officials ) also broadcast that TOBB and KTTO delegations met wit the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci and with the "speaker of the TRNC parliament" Teberruken Ulucay.

H?sarc?kl?oglu and his accompanying delegation briefed them on the memorandum of understanding signed with the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking during the visits H?sarc?kl?oglu said that "the stronger the TRNC is the stronger they are".

"Our only request from you is for you to create a strong and self sustainable TRNC economy. No doubt the solution process is important but to create a strong TRNC economy is even more important. Our support in this direction will always continue" he said.

Ulucay said that the memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions was "an important gain for the TRNC".

"The strengthening of our economy is extremely important from a political perspective. Such initiatives will allow the TRNC to take its deserved place in the world as and when a settlement is reached" he added.

[02] "Education Leaders Forum" held in the breakaway regime

Illegal Bayrak (04.07.18 http://www.brtk.net/?englishposts=education-leaders-forum-held-in-trnc) broadcast that educators from the Turkic World convened at a forum held in the occupied part of Lefkosia yesterday.

The forum organized by the "Cyprus Turkish Friendship Society" titled "Leaders Forum in International Education" was held at the "TRNC foreign ministry".

More than 100 educators and education experts attended the forum moderated by Prof. Dr Oguz Karakartal from the illegal Lefka European University.

The President of the Turkish Associations Solidarity Society Assoc. Prof. Dr Guven Ar?kl?, the President of the Azerbaijan Friendship Society Orhan Hasanoglu, Azerbaijan? MP Sona Aliyeva and the Assistant Minister for the Azeri Diaspora Ismail Ensarli delivered speeches.

The importance of cooperation in the Turkic World was emphasized at the forum meetings.

"Deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs" Kudret Ozersay and the "minister of national education" Cemal Ozyigit also attended the forum.

Delivering the opening speech at the event, the President of the Turkish Associations Solidarity Society and the Rebirth Party Assoc. Prof. Dr Guven Ar?kl? reminded that efforts had been made during the Soviet era to wipe out Turkish identity in the Turkic Republics.

He said that this had changed after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Ar?kl? also said that there were people of different Turkic backgrounds who had taken part in the "1974 Turkish Peace Operation in Cyprus" as he called the Turkish invasion.

Ozyigit said that the Turkish Cypriots had succeeded in preserving their identity during the island's British colonial rule, embracing the principles and reforms of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Stating that it was important for people who shared the same religion, language and values to cooperate where ever they are in the world, Ozyigit said "we should do this without isolating ourselves from the rest of the world".

Stating that the Turkish Cypriots desirea bi-zonal, bi-communal settlement on the basis of political equality, Ozyigit said that any peaceful settlement that is to be achieved needed to preserve the value of the Turkish Cypriot society.

Ozyigit also said that it was important not to be stuck in the past when moving into the future.

Ozersay delivered the opening lecture at the forum.

Explaining that the Cyprus negotiations have been going on for the past 50 years, Ozersay alleged that "the unsolved Cyprus problem had both an ethnic conflict and an international law aspect to it".

"We can exist by governing and administering ourselves but we can't exist when someone governs over us" said Ozersay who added that the "TRNC is an observer state within the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation and the Economic Cooperation Organisation".

He said that there were artificial attempts being made to draw similarities between Azerbaijan's Nagorno Karabakh and the "TRNC".

"A part of Azerbaijan is under occupation and invasion. Attempts are being made to keep a distance from the TRNC by drawing similarities between the two conflicts. This is an excuse. The military intervention which took place here in 1974 stems from an international agreement. North Cyprus is not under invasion" he claimed.

[03] Ozgurgun alleges that the Greek Cypriots should also welcome Erdogan with flowers

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (04.07.18) reports that Huseyin Ozgurgun, chairman of the National Unity Party (UBP) has alleged that the Greek Cypriots should also welcome Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with flowers at the illegal airport in occupied Tymbou when he will illegally arrive in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus on 10 July.

In statements to Turkish Dogan news agency (DHA), Ozgurgun replied to a reference by the Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis, who has reportedly expressed the annoyance of the Republic of Cyprus from Erdogan's illegal visit to the island. Describing Mavroyiannis' statements as "nonsense", Ozgurgun claimed:

"Mavroyiannis or the Greek Cypriot leadership should come to Ercan [Translator's note: The illegal airport in Tymbou] holding flowers. If there was not for our Turkey, the Greek Cypriots also would not live on the island in peace and tranquility. We, as Turkish Cypriots, are proud, happy. Our President Mr Erdogan loves us, he loves the Turkish Cypriot people. If our Turkey did not exist, we would also not exist".

Commenting to references in Greek Cypriot social media that Erdogan should meet with President Anastasiades, Ozgurgun described them as "propaganda" and alleged that if Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visits the Turkish Cypriot leader, Erdogan will visit President Anastasiades.

The paper writes also that Erhan Arikli, chairman of the settlers' Revival Party (YDP) described Erdogan's illegal visit to the occupied area of Cyprus as "a message to the world" that the Turkish Cypriots are not alone.

[04] KTOS and KTOEOS continue receiving applications for passports

Under the title "5,233 applications in five months", Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen newspaper (04.07.18) reports that children born from mixed marriages between Turkish Cypriots and Turks in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus continue submitting applications to an office opened by the Turkish Cypriot primary and secondary school teachers' trade unions (KTOS and KTOEOS) for acquiring a passport of the Republic of Cyprus. According to the paper, 5,233 applications were submitted until today within the framework of the campaign launched by the trade unions on 15 February 2018.

Sener Elcil, general secretary of KTOS, told the paper that they will continue receiving applications and added that on 3 August they will meet with the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Petrides regarding this issue.

Referring to the legal procedure which they will follow in courts, Elcil said that this lasts for 1-2 years and added that if the result is negative, they will have the opportunity to apply to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). He added that the procedure in the ECHR lasts for 2-3 years and explained that filing a lawsuit will be the last thing which they will do, because first they will complete the application process.

[05] Tore alleges that the "IPC" should not return to Greek Cypriots their properties

Turkish Cypriot daily Demokrat Bakis newspaper (04.07.18) reports that Zorlu Tore, "deputy" with the National Unity Party (UBP) and "vice president" of the so-called assembly of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, has alleged that it is not correct for the "Immovable Property Commission" ("IPC"), established by Turkey in the occupied area of Cyprus, to return occupied Greek Cypriot properties to their owners. Arguing that the relevant "law" should be amended, Tore claimed:

"When the Greek Cypriots expropriate Turkish Cypriot properties in the south and keep the properties which have not been expropriated under the custodian, it is wrong for the Turkish Cypriot side to return properties to Greek Cypriots by law. We must put an end to practices which present Turkey, the Turkish army and the TRNC as guilty and occupiers. The immovable property law must either be amended or its duration must not be renewed. The property issue must be handled with global exchange and compensations".

[01] Erdogan to pay first trips abroad as President to the breakaway regime and Azerbaijan

Turkish Hurriyet Daily News (04.07.18 http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/erdogan-to-pay-first-trips-abroad-as-president-to-northern-cyprus-azerbaijan-134120) reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will take his first trips on July 10 to the "TRNC" and Azerbaijan as the newly elected President, a day after he forms his new cabinet in line with the implementation of the new governmental system.

Erdogan is expected to take his presidential oath on July 9 and announce his Ministers, as well as some other high-ranking government officials.

Following a long-existing tradition of Turkey's elected heads of the government, he will visit "TRNC" and Baku. During his trips in which he will discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, Erdogan will meet with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Ak?nc? and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Erdogan's cabinet will accompany him on both trips.

The Turkish President's next address will be in Brussels on July 11 and July 12, where he will attend the NATO Summit. [02] Ince challenges CHP chair to step down from post

Turkish Hurriyet Daily News (04.07.18 http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/i-urged-kilicdaroglu-to-hold-convention-for-change-of-leadership-ince-says-134107) reports that Muharrem Ince, the defeated presidential candidate of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has said he has urged CHP leader Kemal K?l?cdaroglu to step down and instead become "honorary leader" of the party in a snap convention that would elect Ince as party leader.

"I proposed to him [K?l?cdaroglu] that we hold an extraordinary convention. I told him he could become the honorary chairman and I could be the chair of the party," Ince told reporters on July 3.

He said he made the offer during their first face-to-face meeting since the June 24 parliamentary and presidential elections, in which Ince received 30.6 % of the vote and the CHP received 22 %.

Ince's ability to energize the party during campaigning has led many dissidents to push for long-awaited change in the CHP's leadership before the March 2019 local election.

"I will not collect signatures [for the congress]. If K?l?cdaroglu rejects my offer, the party organization will solve the problem itself," Ince added, hinting that his grassroots support in the party could start collecting signatures for an extraordinary congress.

Ince had run against K?l?cdaroglu in two previous conventions but failed to win them. In the most recent congress, he challenged K?l?cdaroglu and received 476 votes from the 1,266 CHP delegates, while K?l?cdaroglu received 790.

Party sources say Ince's supporters are confident about gathering 634 signatures necessary to hold the extraordinary congress, while other CHP members suggest that Ince does not have such grassroots support.

K?l?cdaroglu responded to Ince's comments, saying his revealing of the content of their meeting is an example of "political indecency."

Following Ince's challenge, CHP spokesperson Bulent Tezcan also said the main opposition "doesn't have an extraordinary meeting on its agenda."

The party has, however, summoned its Central Executive Board to convene on July 5.
