  • [01] 104 LIFE environment projects selected for 1996

The European Commission has decided to co-fund 104 LIFE projects in the area of environment protection. Projects selected cover the three LIFE environment priority areas: innovative and demonstration actions for industry; demonstration, promotion and technical assistance actions for local authorities and preparatory actions to support Community legislation and policies. Waste and water issues dominate among the industry projects, whereas the local authorities' projects mainly focus on planning and water treatment. Almost all preparatory action projects deal with coastal zone protection. The total contribution from the Commission is approximately ECU 43 million out of a total investment of ECU 163 million.
