[02] Commission clears take-over of EZH (Netherlands) by PreussenElektra (Germany)

The European Commission has cleared the acquisition of the Dutch electricity generation company N.V. Elektriciteitsbedrijf Zuid-Holland (EZH) by the German undertaking PreussenElektra AG, which is owned by Veba AG. The two companies' activities overlap only marginally and do not therefore threaten competition on the opening Dutch power generation market.

[03] Commission authorises Gefco to acquire control of KN ELAN (Germany)

The European Commission has given the go-ahead for Gefco Deutschland GmbH, based in Mörfelden, to acquire control of KN Elan GmbH & Co KG, based in Groß-Gerau. Gefco, which belongs to Peugeot S.A., and KN Elan are both haulage companies handling domestic and international freight. Their business activities overlap only in Germany. In view of the large number of relatively strong competitors, Gefco and KN Elan's market position after the merger does not give rise to any competition concerns

[04] Commission gives conditional green light to joint venture between Siemens (Germany) and Fujitsu (Japan) to produce computer hardware

The European Commission has authorised the creation of a full-function joint venture between Fujitsu Limited and Siemens AG. The aim of the operation is to combine Siemens' and Fujitsu's European businesses for the development, manufacture and sale of computer hardware and related products, including desktop PCs, laptops, workstations, servers and storage systems. The Commission found that the operation will not create or strengthen a dominant position. However, the clearance has been subject to the companies' compliance with certain commitments, designed to remove the risk of coordination in the market for financial workstations.
