[01] Further European Union Support for the Presidential Elections in
Afghanistan
As part of its comprehensive programme of support for Afghanistan’s first
ever Presidential elections, the European Commission has today announced
the deployment of a European Union Democracy and Election Support Mission
(EU DESM) to Kabul. The Mission will assess key aspects of the October 9th
Presidential Elections and, upon completion of the process, will make
recommendations for the future regarding the electoral and wider
democratisation processes. Additionally the Mission will support the work
of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission and domestic observer
groups over the election period. In all 25 elections and field experts will
be deployed in centres across Afghanistan for periods of up to three
months. The Mission will work in close co-ordination with the EU Special
Representative for Afghanistan and the European Commission Delegation in
Kabul.

de 0,4% dans la zone euro; baisse de 0,2% dans l’UE25
La production industrielle de la zone euro, ajustée des variations
saisonnières, a baissé de 0,4% en juin 2004 par rapport à mai 2004, selon
les estimations publiées aujourd’hui par Eurostat, l’Office
statistique des Communautés européennes. La production avait augmenté de
0,6% en mai3 et de 0,3% en avril. La production de l'UE25 a reculé de 0,2%
en juin 2004, après des hausses de 0,5% tant en mai qu’en avril. Par
rapport à juin 2003, la production industrielle a progressé en juin 2004
de 2,7% dans la zone euro et de 2,9% dans l’UE25.
