    MANCHESTER (ANA) - Manchester United of England beat Panathinaikos Athens 3-1 in the opening match of the second phase of the European soccer Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

    Teddy Sheringham put Manchester ahead in the 48th minute.

    Panathinaikos equalised with Giorgos Karagounis in the 64th minute. Paul Scholes scored Manchester's other goals in the 80th and 90th minute.

    In the other Group A match of the competition, Valencia of Spain beat Sturm Graz of Austria 2-0.
